Extended sexuality education
The term sexuality refers to the'norms, values, opinion, feelings and behaviour of people regarding sex. Similarly, the knowledge, perspective, skills and proper positive change in behaviour about sex is called sexuality education. The sexuality education
helps people to live a physically, mentally, emotionally and socially healthy sexual life. The main objectives of extended sexuality education are:
1. Youth friendly health services.
2. Respect and preservation of reproductive right of people.
3. Safe sexual behaviour.
4. Safe-motherhood services.
5. Life-skills based education.
Importance of extended sexuality education
1. It teaches positive perspectives and proper life skills.
2. It awares people against gender based violence.
3. It gives information about sex and reproductive rights of people.
4. It enables young people to solve curiosity and problems about sexuality. 5. It helps to make healthy person, healthy families and healthy nation as a whole.
Scope of extended sexuality education
The extended sexuality education has a diverse scope. It is explained in the following points:
1. Sex and reproductive health
The extended gender education enables people to maintain sexual and reproductive health. It teaches people about pregnancy at proper age, use of contraceptive
devices, safe abortion, prevention and control of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
2. Gender
The social and cultural roles or responsibilities assigned separately to men and women is called gender. It aims to eliminate gender based discrimination.
3. Sex right of people
Every citizen of the nation has a right to identify hls or er own sex and act
accordingly. However, they should not affect or humiliate others while exercising their right.
4. Violence control
Violence is the physical or mental hurt caused by a person upon another person. ‘ The knowledge of gender education awares people about their sexual rights and social responsibilities. So, it helps to control gender based violence.
5. Entertainment and enjoyment
An adult person can have entertainment and enjoyment through sex. However, no one is allowed to humiliate or hurt others.
6. Diversity
People have different physical, economic, religious, cultural and emotional diversity. On the basis of sex, a person may be a male, female or that of third gender.
People should not hesitate to talk about the matters of sex. However, the adolescents should be much careful in sexual matters.
